At `XV Balcanicum-Migrations and displacement of people in the Balkans”, Poznan, Polonia (4-5.11.2026)
The aim of this paper was to present the Morlach shepherding activity, during the negotiations for the border of Dalmatia. The topic contributes to the understanding of life on a moving border, to seeing how the dual status of the Morlachs (subjects of the Turks and tenant of the Venetian lands) was or not shaped by a diplomatic game and also to analyze the Venetian solutions applied in controlling the damages made by the Morlachs herds in the already war affected hinterland of Dalmatia. On the other side, the topic adds to the research on the evolution of the shepherding practice of the Morlachs and a cross-centuries perspective.
